About The Eileen O’Connor Centre

A Sacred Place in the Heart of Coogee
The Eileen O’Connor Centre is located within the peaceful grounds of Our Lady’s Home in Coogee, where Eileen lived, prayed and died in 1921. The Centre honours her extraordinary life of faith, resilience and compassion for the sick and poor.

Preserving Eileen’s Story
At the heart of the Centre is Eileen’s preserved bedroom — now a consecrated chapel — alongside her wheelchair, bed, and personal belongings. These treasured items offer a moving glimpse into her suffering and her unwavering devotion to God.

A Living History
Historical displays, archival photographs, and artefacts from the early days of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor tell the story of a ministry founded in love and service. Visitors can walk through the early chapters of a mission that continues to this day.

A Space for Prayer and Reflection
More than a museum, the Centre is a quiet and sacred place for personal prayer, reflection, and spiritual connection. It invites visitors to slow down, listen deeply, and draw strength from Eileen’s example.

A Resource for Schools and Parishes
The Centre welcomes school groups and parish communities seeking to explore faith in action. Eileen’s life speaks powerfully to themes of holiness, social justice, compassion, and resilience — enriching Catholic education and spiritual formation.

Eileen’s Legacy Continues
With her cause for canonisation now progressing in Rome, the Eileen O’Connor Centre plays an important role in sharing her story with new generations. It stands as a testament to a life lived for others, and to the enduring hope found in deep, self-giving faith.
