Long time friend visits Our Lady’s Home
We were very happy to welcome to Our Lady’s Home Fr John Kennedy the parish priest of Church of Christ the King Tennant’s Creek.
Fr John has been a friend and helper of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor for many years, working as a young volunteer in Brisbane and then with the Sisters in Kings Cross, Sydney. It was Sr Marie Carey who suggested to him that he might have a vocation! Fr John said Sr Agnes (Peggy) Shead, Sr Patricia (Pat) Malone and Sr Greta Gabb also gave him enormous prayerful support.
On 15 July 2000, Fr John was ordained by Archbishop Pell. Twenty-five years later, to honour that date, Fr John celebrated Mass at Cardinal Pell’s tomb at St Mary’s Cathedral. The next day he came to Our Lady’s Home and celebrated Mass. He was joined by Sr Pat, two of his sisters, Mary and Bernadette, his best mate from school Steve and his wife Chrissy who came down from Mackay especially to be part of the celebrations as well as Sydney friends.
