Sharing the story of Eileen

Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor Archivist, Carlos Lopez; OLN Community Liaison, Monica O’Connell; and historian and author, Dr Mary O’Connell, addressed a session of the University of the Third Age (U3A) in Sydney.

Carlos shared the story of Eileen O’Connor and Father Timothy Edward (Ted) McGrath msc and their journey to establish Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor.

Mary, author of Our Lady of Coogee, then engaged the audience with her obvious passion for the story of Eileen and the history of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor. A discussion on the importance of saints in the Catholic faith ended a wonderful afternoon.

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is an international movement that provides learning opportunities and stimulation for retired members of the community.
