Catherine (Katie) Lynch
8 April 1914.
Catherine (Katie) Lynch, one of the foundation nurses, arrives at Our Lady’s Home. Katie was born into a large pioneering family at The Welcome, near Parkes, NSW, in 1885. In early 1914, she attended a retreat conducted by Rev Father Edward McGrath msc in Parkes and was inspired by his comments about a newly founded society of nurses who cared for the sick poor in their own homes. Katie travelled to Sydney to meet with Eileen O’Connor and joined the community at Our Lady’s Home soon afterwards. Katie’s nieces, Eulalie (Lalie) and Bess McNamara, also worked as volunteer nurses in the early years. Katie died on 12 June 1942 after 28 years of serving the poor.
