19 February 2018. Today, on the 136th anniversary of Eileen O’Connor’s birthday, Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor welcomed Bishop Richard Umbers and a delegation from the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney led by Ian Smith, Director – Outreach and Chris Lee, Team Leader for Catholic Youth Sydney. Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP has selected Eileen O'Connor as the official spiritual companion for the Archdiocese of Sydney’s young people in the Year of Youth, which is being held around the country by the nation’s bishops. A group of 16 representatives who work for various Catholic youth outreach organisations visited Our Lady’s Home to learn more about Eileen. Former congregational leader and Eileen O’Connor Centenary Project Leader, Sr Margaret Mary Birgan oln, spoke to the group about the order’s co-founders, Eileen O’Connor and Rev. Father Edward (Ted) McGrath, their mission to serve the sick poor in their own homes, Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor and the Brown Nurses before they visited the chapel and museum. The afternoon finished with benediction, a recitation of Eileen’s beatification prayer and a hymn to Our Lady.
